Hedgehog
Hedgehog
1 x Hedgehog figure
High quality indigenous creature figure- Perfect for small world play.
We think this is the cutest little creature we have and they certainly are a best seller.
Fun Facts:
Hedgehogs were not always called by this name (hedge for where they live, hogs because they snort and grunt like pigs!) but Urchins is their old name, and this was where the term sea urchins came from! They have 5000 quills/spines on their back, each one lasting for about a year before it is replaced. Those little legs travel 2 miles per night as they forage for food and they use their hearing and very long snouts to hear or sniff their food, rather than their eyesight, which is poor.
Rachel’s Notes:
This is my favourite creature in the whole world and I am a proud foster Mum each year to hedgehogs too under-weight to hibernate. There is lots of information, including local information about how we can help this endangered species right on our doorstop. Your local rescue centre will no doubt be really struggling for money – why not invite them to bring a few hedgehogs into school for the children to see for a small donation to their work? It costs around £80+ to rescue a poorly hedgehog and then release it back to where it came from. Here are Huff and Alice, two of my foster hogs, once very poorly, now back in the wild!
