Fun facts:

Ostriches can run from a predator at speeds of over 70 mph and can cover 5m in one stride! Most of the time they run at speeds of 30 mph. People sometimes try to ride and race them and they are the biggest birds on the planet. They lay huge eggs, which are apparently the size of 24 hens eggs and are just as delicious!

Rachel’s Notes:

I believe our desert collection belongs in sand provision as a staple. I often see farm animals offered in sand play but can’t for the life of me understand why?! The sand tray offers a fantastic habitat for these creatures, especially when dry twigs, grasses and seedpods are added to make the small world environment more complex. Dried seeds would make good replica ostrich eggs.
