Fun Facts:

Despite some popular beliefs, sheep are intelligent animals with great memories. Research has shown that sheep can recognize up to 50 other sheep faces, and remember them for two years. They are even able to recognize human faces! Other studies have shown that sheep are capable of remembering how to navigate complex mazes. Sheep use plants and other substances that otherwise hold no nutritional value to them to prevent or treat disease, and teach their young to do them same.

Rachel’s Notes:

We have a sheepdog in our set to round up the ewes and their offspring. You could use artificial grass as the flooring for their pen, or moss if you want something more natural. You can also grow grass (use cat grass as it grows very well inside) in a tray or tough spot for your small world farm. Just add the seed to a mixture of soil and sand and have the children water it until it is a lovely thick mat in the bottom of your tray. When you have finished with it, it will make a lovely ‘living rug’ for your playground – perhaps as a reading area?
